The last time I went to Orlando I missed my flight. The ensuing journey turned laughable with hurricane Jeanne bearing down Florida, a series of closed airports, and even a speeding ticket as I braved rain and wind to get to Orlando. I vowed never to return.

Tomorrow marks the seventh day of my voyage home, the longest I’ve spent in my native land in over six years. And the first holiday season with the family in five years. What defines home? I guess home is actually Toronto where I grew up, but the folks packed the wagon and traveled west in search of warmer climates. This is home now. Home is always where the parents are despite having moved south years ago. I’ve always felt unsettled in America with the knowledge that my welcome would end at the whim of my employer. My entire life designed for quick disposal despite the truckload of stuff I own.

Sometimes life throws you a series of curveballs, a streak of bad luck if you will. And for some inexplicable reason it comes in threes. Well, my technology mojo took a dump in a big way and I’m still waiting for the third blow. Funny enough, it wasn’t the technology per say, but rather terrible customer service from technology companies. Either way, if somebody’s messing with my tech, they might as well be noodling my tech.

After talking about it for almost a year, I finally decided to get my own Web site. Everyone’s doing it, so I figured I’d follow the pack. After talking about it for almost a year, I finally decided to get my own Web site. Everyone’s doing it, so I figured I’d follow the pack. I spent several hours on a Sunday researching hosting companies for price, reliability – all the usual metrics you look at before buying anything online. I picked HostingPlex because they had great value and they were Canadian. I thought I’d send some of my cash back across the border, even if it was minimal.
